It was good to meet up with the Slovenian writer Cvetka Bevc again. Writers Réaltán Ní Leannáin - who had visited Fryslan - Áine Ní Ghlinn first met her during her residency in Dublin. They decided they needed to ensure that they didn't fall out of contact. Cvetka organised a series of poetry readings in Slovenia and all three writers were there this year. You can read more on Réaltán's Irish blog, Turas Ailse.
They started in the Writers Association in Ljubljana, carried on to a reading in a library in Ruse and finished up with a reading in a writing/arts centre Maribor. It was a marvellous way to see different aspects of the country, and the Irish writers couldn't get over how hospitable people were.
From there all three spent a week in writing retreat in the Slovenian Writers Association property in Bled - recharging imaginations, writing batteries and getting words down on paper.
Many thanks to Cvetka Bevc for organising this - the Irish writers say they will be back in Slovenia another day!
