As Gregor's main event, both himself and the Irish language poet, Gearóid Mac Lochlainn performed at the Night of the Scribes as part of McCracken's Cultural Society's Summer School event. Grregor and Gearóid had met previously to discuss their writing, what inspires them to write and exploring various Irish language and Slovene poets.
The McCracken Summer School is a pivotal occasion in Belfast’s social and cultural calendar. Its contribution to the Irish language, both North and South, cannot be underestimated. People flock to the Summer School from all over Ireland as well as the four corners of the globe.
Up to 3,000 people pass through the doors of Áras Mhic Reachtain during this week; attending the events, language classes, singing workshops and the wide range of concerts available in the evenings.
On the Night of the Scribes, both poets entralled the audience by capturing their imagination with very emotive poetry. There was time for questions and answers at the end of the readings. Mc Cracken Summer School is one of the highlights in the Irish language calender. http://mhicreachtain.com/en/. (Photography: JIm Corr)
