Mlade rime in Maribor ...
Wednesday, April 20th was the day of the Young Rhymes, or in Slovene Mlade rime, event. The event was hosted by writer and translator Veronika Dintinjana, who is also the organizer of Young Rhymes in Ljubljana, a monthly poetry reading event series.
That evening's literary guest, Ekaitz Goienetxea, who performed last, read some of his poems including:
Ondo etorri bizitzara / Welcome to life / Dobrodošel v življenje
Nor naiz ni / Who am I / Kdo sem jaz
Hitzik ederrena / The most beautiful word / Med besedami najdragocenejši
Hiru puntu / Three dots / Tri pike
Ekaitz also included a poem by Basque author Jose Luis Otamendi entitled Hautua / The Choice / Izbira in his reading.
In Ekaitz's words, the poem is the best possible argumentation of why one should choose to write, or better yet, to live in the Basque language.
The Slovene translations of the poems were read by Nina Ditmajer, a young writer and literary critic from Maribor, who is also co-founder and editor-at-large of the literary-linguistic journal "Liter jezika" (A litre of language).
Mlade rime is an opportunity for young poets to present their works (and themselves), and their FB page describes them as "the most rock 'n' roll poetry nights in Slovenia".

Ekaitz Goienetxea's performance at the Young Rhymes in Maribor was featured as part of the "19th Slovene book days in Maribor" festival programme.
