In September 2018, a Basque writer will travel to the city of Bitola, in Macedonia.
Ekaitz Goienetxea, Yoseba Peña, Beatriz Chivite and Eneko Aizpurua completed their residencies in Slovenia, Ireland and Friesland in 2016 and 2017. The first 2018 call was aimed at a Papiamentu author travelling to Ireland later on this year. With this final open call, the sixth one since the start of Other Words in 2015, Beste hitzak will give one more Basque writer the opportunity to carry out a creative literary stay in the country of one of its partners in the project.
Candidates are encouraged to hand in their proposals from the 26th of July to the 24th of August. The residency itself will take place between the 17th of September and the 12th of November.
Youth Forum Bitola, the association managing the Other Words programme in Macedonia, has so far hosted Frisian, Slovenian and Irish writers André Looijenga, Peter Tomaž Dobrila, Zdravko Duša and Diarmuid de Faoite. It also helped Vladimir Kopicl, an author from Novi Sad, develop his literary project in the Serbian language. This autumn, it will host the next creative stay by a Basque author.
