Foras na Gaeilge is delighted to announce that they have selected Aifric Mac Aodha to spend time in Friesland as part of the Other Words project this year.
Aifric will focus on her own writing, keeping a blog and participating in events connected with minority languages, especially Frisian, while she is there.
Aifric Mac Aodha was born in 1979. Her first collection, Gabháil Syrinx (The Capture of Syrinx) was published by An Sagart in 2010 and her latest collection, Foreign News, was published by The Gallery Press (2017). She is a former editor of Comhar, and the current Irish language poetry editor of The Stinging Fly, gorse and Poetry Ireland’s Trumpet. The Arts Council of Ireland awarded her four endowments. Her work has been published in various magazines and journals, including POETRY Young Irish Poets, and has been translated to many languages, including French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Czech. She was awarded a first class honours degree in Old Irish and Modern Irish from University College Dublin in 2010 and spent several years tutoring and lecturing on Irish language and literature. She currently works as an assistant editor for An Gúm.
